The Institute for Mental Health Policy Research is seeking four (4) Research Assistants for part-time positions in Walpole Island First Nation, Ontario. The Research Assistants will support a research project funded by a Ministry of Health and Long Term Care (MOHLTC) Health System Research Fund entitled A Regional Knowledge Mobilization for First Nations Mental Wellness Strategies. This project involves the collection of local data and the development of community wellness strategies in five Ontario First Nations.
This position is specific to Walpole Island First Nation, where the Research Assistants will report to the Project Scientist and take direction from a local Field Coordinator and the Project Coordinator. The Research Assistants will be responsible for data collection taking place at the CAMH mobile research lab. Working as a team with the Field Coordinator, the Research Assistants will assist in recruiting and screening eligible study participants, obtaining informed consent, scheduling appointments, conducting interviews, administering questionnaires, and completing other research duties as required. Adherence to strict protocols for the protection of data privacy and confidentiality is required.
This part-time position will have varying hours for three months, and will include work on evenings and weekends. You will support a healthy workplace that embraces diversity, encourages teamwork and complies with all applicable regulatory and legislative requirements. Hours of work are variable. This position will be based in Walpole Island First Nation with training in Toronto and London at the start.
The successful candidate will have at least three years of University or Community College and 1 year of related work experience, or equivalent experience. Knowledge relating to mental health and addictions is considered an asset as well as experience interacting with individuals in a research, academic, and/or service agency setting. Candidates must possess strong organizational skills and be extremely detail oriented. Candidates will be proficient in using Microsoft Office Programs (such as Word and Excel) and must be conscientious, detail-oriented, reliable, mature, enthusiastic, and highly motivated. This position requires strong interpersonal, communication and time-management skills and the ability to work independently while closely following detailed instructions. Candidates require the ability to work effectively in a wide range of settings with individuals from diverse backgrounds. Preference will be given to candidates who are members or residents of Walpole Island First Nation. A valid Ontario driver’s license is an asset.
Please note:This part-time, contract position is NOT part of any bargaining unit.
