Research Scientist, Stand Development Modeling
Salary $61,805.03 – $ 77,194.06 annually

The Stand Development Modelling Research Scientist develops individual tree-based stand growth models, analyzes growth and yield data, conducts stand dynamics research, and applies growth and yield expertise to ministry priorities. The position provides scientific advice, analysis and information on stand growth and yield into the formulation of a wide range of ministry policies, standards and guidelines. The Stand Development Research Scientist is a key member of the Stand Development Modelling team. The stand growth models, decision-support tools, analyses, and expert knowledge provided by the Stand Development Modelling Team are required for the responsible and effective management of BC’s natural resources.

Qualifications for this role include:

Master’s Degree with an emphasis on forest mensuration and modelling and five (5) years of *related experience; OR,
An equivalent combination of education and experience (i.e. A graduate degree in related discipline and a minimum of seven (7) years of *related experience).

*Related experience (as described above as either 5 or 7 years depending on level of education) MUST include the following:
In-depth demonstrated experience (minimum of 5 years) with the development, calibration, testing, and enhancement of individual tree-based growth models and associated decision-support products; AND,
Demonstrated experience in scientific research, publishing, and presentations.
Must be registered, or immediately eligible for registration, as a Professional Forester with the Association of BC Forest Professionals.
