Overview of the Role:

The Employee Communications team is responsible for all employee-facing communications, creating employee awareness and engagement in the corporate culture, purpose, vision, mission, strategy, and related initiatives. The team provides employees with information on the company’s organization structure, events, and milestones as well as access to Line of Business (LOB)-specific information and systems. The team reports to the Vice President, Change and Culture, and communicates with employees on behalf of the Executive Leadership Team (ELT). The Senior Editorial Writer, Employee Communications develops and is responsible for the planning, writing, and editing of a variety of internal communication materials.

The Senior Editorial Writer, Employee Communications reports to the Manager, Employee Communications. The Senior Editorial Writer works closely with the HR team, Corporate Communications team, employees and leaders at various levels in the organization to research and write for internal communications channels including newsletters and intranet.

General Accountabilities:

•Develop and be responsible for the planning, writing, editing and publishing of a variety of communication materials, including monthly employee newsletters, corporate reports (e.g., Pension Report), corporate email messages, scripts, speeches, bulletins, announcements and Intranet content in accordance with corporate, divisional and departmental objectives.

•Obtain information required for writing assignments by soliciting information from employees at all levels and, as required, individuals outside of the Company.

•Participate in the editorial planning process for a variety of ongoing publications.

•Build and maintain a network of contacts within the Company including employees and management at all levels of the organization. Work with other employees and external contractors (e.g., writers, photographers) for specific assignments.

•Work with and mentor co-op students, interns and/or new graduates.

•Transform complex concepts into simple communications that can be easily grasped by diverse audiences.

•Align and support the vision, mission, goals and strategic objectives of Hydro One through employee communications excellence.

•Leverage employee communications to shine a light on great work and behaviours that support and demonstrate our Hydro One Core Values

•Help educate and encourage the health and safety of our employees through communications

•Prioritize and multi-task in a fast-paced environment, handling multiple assignments from conception to completion on deadline.

Selection Criteria:

•This position requires 8 to 10 years of experience in journalism or business communications.

•The incumbent has a bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications, or the equivalent.

•Ability to recognize and address communication needs, and employee communication challenges in the development of communication programs.

•Experience in producing content across digital, print, video and leadership tool kits

•Excellent time-management skills to manage multiple tasks with varying priority levels.
