Senior Policy Analyst – Housing & Water

Description:

The Assembly of First Nations is seeking a highly skilled and motivated professional to conduct research and analysis, develop policies, develop reports, and other written material related to Housing and Water in First Nation communities. The candidate will also be a strong advocate in advancing AFN’s position in all Housing and Water related matters and will be responsible for all related communications.

Candidates must have a minimum of 5 – 7 years’ experience in conducting research, analyzing information and policy experience related to matters in First Nations communities. Knowledge and experience on housing and water will be considered a strong asset. Candidates should have a Post-secondary degree in political, technical or social sciences, environment, humanities, public policy or municipal administration, or equivalent combination of education & experience. Candidates will have demonstrated experience in writing proposals and reports, leading discussion groups, and synthesizing information into policy positions and documents. Candidates should also have experience dealing with Indigenous Services Canada, CMHC, Environment Canada and/or other related Federal and Provincial departments and their various programs and initiatives related to First Nations. Extensive experience working in First Nations housing and water issues including community level experience will be considered an asset.

Must have in-depth knowledge and understanding of First Nations Housing and Water issues; excellent verbal and written communication skills; and, the ability to interpret technical material and policies for general and First Nation audiences. The incumbent must possess excellent team building, listening, coaching, group facilitation skills, and must have creative problem resolution skills. English is the working language although the ability to communicate effectively in French or any Indigenous language would also be an asset.

Location: Ottawa, Ontario with some travel
