Job Description

Special Information:

  • If successful for this temporary work opportunity or assignment, permanent employees who choose to accept said assignment and are members of Local 416 will retain their permanent status.
  • Successful candidates are required to complete the full duration of the temporary work opportunity/assignment
  • Temporary employees who are members of Local 416, who have made a commitment to a seasonal/non-seasonal opportunity/assignment through the Work Selection process, are eligible to apply and be considered for an assessment only. Temporary employees who are deemed qualified through the assessment process with have their “Personal Work Selection List” (PSWL) updated for the period of time the assessment is valid
  • This temporary work opportunity or assignment may be subject to bumping in accordance with the “LETTER OF AGREEMENT for Temporary Work Opportunities/Assignments” under the TCEU Local 416 Memorandum of Settlement

Major Responsibilities:

  • Manufactures various signs for the City
  • Determines materials required and layout for production of various traffic, street name and
  • construction, signs, etc. Utilizes and interprets sketches, drawings, written instructions and
  • Province of Ontario standards.
  • Draws pictorial portion of signs. Operates various computer signing machines/equipment, etc. and
  • hand letters signs
  • Applies signage to various objects such as litter containers
  • Ensures accuracy of sign wording and numbering
  • Makes signs reflective and paints objects when required. Makes repairs
  • Utilizes a variety of tools/equipment/machines and is responsible for their maintenance
  • Orders materials as required and contacts suppliers. Maintains logs/work orders and records
  • procedures
  • May provide work direction and training to other staff
  • Performs other related work as assigned

Key Qualifications:

Your application must describe your qualifications as they relate to:

  1. Experience in sign manufacturing, specifically with vinyl lettering systems, silk screening and handlettering processes. Demonstrated creative and artistic ability.
  2. Must possess and be able to maintain a valid Province of Ontario, Class ”G” Driver’s License andmust qualify for the City’s equipment operating permits and requirements.

Must also have:

  • Ability to interpret sketches/drawings.
  • Knowledge of Province of Ontario signing specifications including for example, the Manual ofUniform Traffic Control Devices, Ontario Traffic Manual and Highway Traffic Act, etc.
  • Ability to deal courteously with the public.
  • Must be familiar with the Occupational Health and Safety Act and the regulations that apply to thiswork.
  • Must be physically capable of performing required duties.
