Job Summary:

Simply South Inc. is looking for a specialty chef who would be responsible for preparing and producing South Indian Cuisine dishes in a fast-paced working environment. The right candidate will provide hands-on culinary skill to deliver excellent quality food and service to the customer.

Nature of Employment: Permanent Full-time, Shift and Flexible Hours, Evening and Weekend Availability Required

Hours: 40 hours per week

Salary: $18.50 per hour

Job Responsibilities:

  • Plan, direct and prepare full meals, individual dishes and specialty foods as required;
  • Prepare South Indian and other traditional Indian cuisine dishes;
  • Prepare and adapt dishes for customers with allergies and intolerances;
  • Assist Head Chef in planning the menu and chef specials (appetizers, desserts and main dishes);
  • Ensure consistent, timely and high-quality food preparation and presentation;
  • Estimate food inventory requirements and food and labour costs;
  • Direct and instruct kitchen staff and cooks in preparing, cooking, garnishing and presenting food;
  • Organize all inventory and supplies while ensuring that food products are safely stored;
  • Ensure cleanliness and hygiene is maintained in the kitchen and work areas;
  • Train and supervise staff in meal preparation and cooking;
  • Work with minimal supervision;
  • Work with specialized cooking equipment (deep fryer, tandoori pot, etc.);

Minimum Skills Requirements

  • Completion of Secondary School is required;
  • Vocational or technical training or college diploma in hospitality or hotel management;
  • Minimum 3-5 years of experience as a chef/cook or kitchen manager is required;
  • Must have knowledge and experience preparing traditional South Indian Cuisine;
  • Must be dependable, reliable and have effective interpersonal skills.
