Job Requirements:

In order to be considered for this position, your application must clearly demonstrate how you meet the education and experience as outlined below:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Social Work, Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Child and Youth Care; OR
  • Master’s Degree in Educational Counselling Psychology/Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology with completion of a practicum in family and child welfare. Completion of a practicum in family and child welfare occurs in an agency/organization where a student had the opportunity to practice assessing the needs of children and families to develop and provide intervention services to the children and/or families; OR

NOTE: If this education was obtained outside of Canada, you need to confirm it has been assessed for equivalency through the International Credential Evaluation Services (ICES). You must request a comprehensive report and the MCFD supplemental report to be considered for this competition; (Confirmation for equivalency of your degree is required for you to be considered. *Please indicate in your resume if you have this equivalency. If you are in the process of equivalency review, proof must be provided on or by the closing date of the competition, including the MCFD supplementary portion); OR

A candidate may be considered equivalent when they are registered and a member in good standing with the BC College of Social Workers or has a letter from the College confirming that their application for registration has been approved.

  • Employee applicants who have a combination of relevant education, Ministry experience and who are eligible for delegation under the CFCSA may be considered equivalent to the above requirements; OR
  • Degree in a Human Services field PLUS a minimum of two years of *work experience obtained during and/or after completing the required degree; OR
  • Diploma/certificate in a Human Services field obtained AFTER completion of an unrelated degree PLUS a minimum of two years of *work experience obtained during and/or after completing the required education.

Human Services fields includes: Psychology, Sociology, Criminology, Anthropology, Early Childhood Education, Theology, Indigenous Studies, Education, or Nursing. Other combinations of education and experience may be considered.

NOTE: If this education was obtained outside of Canada, you need to confirm it has been assessed for equivalency through the International Credential Evaluation Services (ICES). You must request a basic report to be considered for this competition (Confirmation for equivalency of your degree is required for you to be considered. *Please indicate in your resume if you have this equivalency. Preference may be given to applicants with the following:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Social Work, or Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Child and Youth Care, or Master of Education in Counselling Psychology/Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology with completion of a practicum in family and child welfare.
  • Employee applicants who have a combination of relevant education, Ministry experience and who are eligible for delegation under the Child, Family and Community Services Act may be considered equivalent to the above requirements.
  • Previous recent work experience in Child Welfare.
  • Previous resource work experience.

* Work experience obtained during and/or after completing the required education includes working with children, youth and families in any one or a combination of the following settings:

  • A legislated child protection agency that provides child protection or family support services;
  • A non-delegated agency on a reserve providing direct support services to children, youth and families;
  • A family services agency that provides assessment and counselling services to children, youth and families;
  • A contracted agency providing assessment, counselling and family support services to children, youth and families;
  • A residential setting for children or youth that also involves direct work with families;
  • A probation or corrections setting serving youth and families;
  • A mental health setting providing assessment and counselling services to children, youth and families;
  • A health setting providing assessment and counselling services to children, youth and families;
  • An education setting undertaking assessment and counselling services to children, youth and families
