The Services to Adults with Developmental Disabilities (STADD) overarching mandate is the development of an integrated service delivery model that reflects a one-government approach to better support individuals with developmental disabilities throughout the lifespan and across service systems, particularly through periods of transition, such as youth to adulthood.

Within the context of a person and family centred planning model, the Navigator serves as a transition planning resource and key point of contact for youth and young adults with developmental disabilities, including Autism Spectrum Disorder and Fetal Alcohol Syndrome Disorder. The role of the Navigator is to coordinate team-based planning with government and community partners, and to support youth and their families to navigate and complete transition-related tasks and processes. This is an opportunity to contribute to innovative integrated care for young persons and highlight your strengths in leadership, flexibility and person centred planning. This position requires experience in establishing trusting relationships with youth or young adults with developmental disabilities, (including FASD or ASD) with complex needs such as related to substance use, mental illness, or homelessness resulting in improved outcomes for the young person(s). In order to be considered for this position, your application must clearly demonstrate how you meet the education and experience as outlined below:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work or a related Social Sciences, Health, or Education degree. NOTE: If your degree is obtained outside of Canada, ensure you have had it assessed for equivalency to work in British Columbia through the International Credential Evaluation Service (ICES). Proof needs to be provided on or by the closing date of the competition for your application to be considered.
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience (in total):
    • working in the community with youth or adults with developmental disabilities and their families (including Autism Spectrum Disorder or Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder); OR
    • establishing trusting relationships with youth or young adults with developmental disabilities, with complex needs such as related to substance use, mental illness, or homelessness resulting in improved outcomes for the young person(s); OR
    • working with vulnerable youths or adults, or populations facing multiple barriers.
  • Experience applying person centred planning, goal based planning and community engagement process.
  • Experience working in an interdisciplinary/cross sector team setting, providing informal leadership for coordinating integrated services and supports to individuals.
  • Demonstrated experience in successfully using communications technologies to sustain meaningful engagement at a distance e.g. skilled in communicating in these modalities while interacting with individuals who may have communications challenges.
