IMPORTANT NOTICE TO APPLICANTS
These locations are currently eligible for a retention incentive which is available to all regular permanent Social Program Officers residing in Hard To Recruit (HTR) designated communities across the province. In addition to the re-imbursement of relocation costs (where applicable), the incentive program provides the following:

  • Up to a maximum of $6,000 annual lump sum payment to regular permanent full-time Social Program Officers in the SPO R18 to SPO R30 classifications* OR
  • Up to a maximum of $3,000 annual lump sum payment to regular permanent full-time Social Program Officers placed in the SPO Growth Series (SPO Growth to SPO R24 classifications)**

*Full payment of the incentive is based on regular eligible classifications (SPO R18 to SPO R30) working in an approved location for the full fiscal year (April 1 to March 31). A pro-rated incentive payment may be provided to candidates who work a partial year and/or part-time hours.

Job Qualifications:
To be considered for this position applicants must clearly demonstrate that they possess the following:

  • Bachelors or Master’s Degree in Social Work, Bachelors or Master’s Degree in Child and Youth Care; OR
  • Master’s Degree in Educational Counselling Psychology/Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology with completion of a practicum in family and child welfare. Completion of a practicum in family and child welfare occurs in an agency/organization where a student had the opportunity to practice assessing the needs of children and families to develop and provide intervention services to the children and/or families; OR
    • NOTE: If this education was obtained outside of Canada, you need to confirm it has been assessed for equivalency through the International Credential Evaluation Services (ICES). You must request a comprehensive report and the MCFD supplemental report to be considered for this competition; (Confirmation for equivalency of your degree is required for you to be considered. *Please indicate in your resume if you have this equivalency. If you are in the process of equivalency review, proof must be provided on or by the closing date of the competition, including the MCFD supplementary portion); OR
    • A candidate may be considered equivalent when they are registered and a member in good standing with the BC College of Social Workers or has a letter from the College confirming that her or his application for registration has been approved.
  • Employee applicants who have a combination of relevant education, Ministry experience and who are eligible for delegation under the CFCSA may be considered equivalent to the above requirements.
  • Related degree, or related post-graduate diploma, or related post-graduate certificate in a human services field PLUS a minimum of two years of post-degree *related experience. NOTE: Post-graduate Diploma/Certificate is a qualification awarded after a university degree. An undergraduate or master’s degree is required to be accepted in this type of program.
    Related degree includes Psychology, Sociology, Criminology, Anthropology, Early Childhood Education, Theology, Indigenous Studies, Education, or Nursing. Other combinations of education and experience may be considered.

    • NOTE: If this education was obtained outside of Canada, you need to confirm it has been assessed for equivalency through the International Credential Evaluation Services (ICES). *Related post-degree experience includes experience working with children, youth and families in any one or a combination of the following settings:

  • A legislated child protection agency that provides child protection or family support services;
  • A non-delegated agency on a reserve providing direct support services to children, youth and families;
  • A family services agency that provides assessment and counselling services to children, youth and families;
  • A contracted agency providing assessment, counselling and family support services to children, youth and families;
  • A residential setting for children or youth that also involves direct work with families;
  • A probation or corrections setting serving youth and families;
  • A mental health setting providing assessment and counselling services to children, youth and families;
  • A health setting providing assessment and counselling services to children, youth and families;
  • An education setting undertaking assessment and counselling services to children, youth and families.

Preference may be given to applicants who self-identify as First Nations, Métis or Inuit with the required combination of education and experience.

Successful completion of security screening requirements of the BC Public Service; which includes a Criminal Record Check and a Criminal Records Review Act (CRRA) check.

Willingness statements:

  • You must possess and maintain a valid B.C. Class 5 driver’s licence (note – if you currently have a valid driver’s licence in Canada, and if you are the successful applicant you must acquire a valid B.C. driver’s Class 5 driver’s licence immediately).
  • You may need to use your own vehicle on an expense account basis.
  • Travel is also a requirement and will include travelling in winter road conditions.
