The Child and Youth Mental Health Program provides specialised mental health assessment and treatment services to children, youth and their families when the child or youth is experiencing emotional, psychological, or behavioural disorders.  Specialised services also include community development, consultation, co-ordination, education and contract management in regard to child and youth mental health.

Under the direction of the Aboriginal Child and Youth Mental Health Team Leader, works as a member of a multi-disciplinary Aboriginal Mental Health Team in a number of communities.  In co-ordination with other community agencies and professionals, provides a range of outreach mental health counselling services to Aboriginal children and youth and their families when barriers exist in accessing community services.  This includes direct clinical services such as intake, assessment, formulation of diagnostic impressions, treatment and crisis intervention; consultation with community agencies both on and off reserve; schools, hospitals, and other MCFD programs; involvement in community education, development, co-ordination and prevention/early intervention programs; group facilitation; and program development and evaluation.

Job Requirements:
In order to be considered for this position, your application must clearly demonstrate how you meet the education and experience as outlined below:

Education:

  • MSW (Clinical Specialization or equivalent training/education), M.ED (Counselling), Masters Degree in Counselling Psychology (MA or MEd),  Masters in Child and Youth Care or related Masters with a focus on counselling or comparable graduate degree at Master’s level.
  • NOTE: If your degree was obtained outside of Canada, you need to confirm it has been assessed for equivalency through the International Credential Evaluation Services (ICES). Confirmation for equivalency for your degree is required for you to be considered.
  • Experience working with Aboriginal children, youth and their families on an outreach basis.
  • One year of full-time post Master Degree experience providing child & youth counselling services.
    • Preference may be given to applicants with 2 years of experience providing child & youth counselling services.
  • One year of post Master Degree experience providing family therapy.
    • Preference may be given to applicants with 2 years of experience providing family therapy
  • Preference may be given to applicants with the following:
    • Currently registered with a professional counselling association, such as B.C. Association of Registered Clinical Counsellors, or Canadian Certified Counsellors.
    • Applicants who have Indigenous heritage (First Nations, Metis or Inuit) with the required combination of education and experience Aboriginal applicants that self-disclose.
