This position can be performed in Cranbrook, Kamloops, Prince George, Smithers, or Victoria based on operational availability. Other locations may be considered based on operational requirements.

The Inspector of Mines-Mechanical is the ministry professional on mine mechanical safety and is responsible for compliance and enforcement of health and safety regulations under the delegated authority of the Mines Act and the Health, Safety and Reclamation Code for Mines in British Columbia.  The position conducts mine audits, mine inspections, investigates accidents or breaches, determines actions for non-compliance, reviews mine plans, sets health and safety permit conditions and contributes to related policies and programs.

Job Requirements:
In order to be considered for this position, your application must clearly demonstrate how you meet the education and experience requirements as outlined below:

  • Certified mechanic with several years’ experience in mining or heavy industry with emphasis on heavy material handling systems and mobile equipment, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience solving complex technical problems, interpreting and analyzing data related to mine safety management.
  • Preference may be given to candidates with experience in sub-surface investigations, construction of mines or related works and other aspects of mine safety hazard management and mine engineering.
