The Ministry of Forests, Lands, Natural Resource Operations and Rural Development is the Province’s agency responsible for land and resource management in B.C., which includes the protection of the Province’s archaeological and heritage resources. Operating on a provincial land base of over 94 million hectares, the Ministry ensures the sustainable management of forest, wildlife, water and other land based resources; works with Indigenous and rural communities to strengthen and diversify their economies; and, supports activities that provide environmental, economic, cultural and social benefits. The Ministry is responsible for wildfire management and facilitates safe public access to a wide range of recreational activities such as hunting, fishing, and access to B.C.’s wilderness and backcountry. The Ministry oversees policy development, operational management and implementation, and administers all or part of over 60 statutes and associated regulations.
The primary focus of this position is to develop creative management solutions to strategic resource management issues. The Land and Resource Specialist bridges environmental, social and economic disciplines of natural resource management to advance policy, ministry priorities and strategies, and operational delivery of stewardship outcomes. In this role, you will lead a diverse project team of multidisciplinary specialists across multiple agencies and you are responsible for the management, coordination and delivery of strategic initiatives from initiation through to conclusion. This position also deals with complex natural resource issues involving multiple stakeholders and First Nations.

To be considered for this position, your application must clearly demonstrate how you meet the education and experience as outlined below:
- A Bachelor’s Degree or diploma in a natural resource management-related field [e.g. Forestry, Geography, or Natural Resource Management] and three  years of related experience.
- Registered, or immediately eligible for registration with the Association of British Columbia Forest Professionals as a Registered Forest Technologist.
- Experience in negotiating/mediating solutions in natural resource management.
- Experience using project management tools, techniques and tracking systems and participating in multiple concurrent projects, independently or in teams within time and resource constraints.
- Significant experience managing multiple projects or leading a component [e.g., sub-project] of a major project or regional initiative.
- Experience managing relationships with senior level stakeholders.
- Experience with conflict and dispute resolution principles and practices.
- Valid Class 5 BC driver’s licence.
Preference may be given to applicants with the following:
- Experience in implementing provincial and regional First Nations consultation procedures.

Professional Designation: YES – Please include your registration number in your application. You must be registered [or immediately eligible for registration] as a Registered Forest Technologist [RFT] with the Association of BC Forest Professionals.
