Diversifying the student body by educating a larger proportion of students from outside the traditional cohort of Ontario high school graduates is one of the 4 main goals identified in Wilfrid Laurier University’s new Strategic Academic Plan. The improvement of student mobility also remains a top priority of the Ministry of Advanced Education and Skills Development, as evidenced by the creation of organizations like ONCAT (Ontario Council on Articulation and Transfer) in recent years.

The role of the Transfer Credit Coordinator is to understand and identify opportunities for Laurier to become a preferred destination for college and university students in the province. As a member of Laurier’s multi-campus Enrolment Services team, reporting to the Manager of Recruitment, this position will work to develop and document the infrastructure necessary to efficiently and effectively admit both college and university Transfer Students to the university. Effective and sustainable utilization of new software solutions for transfer credit assessment both internal (Banner Transfer Articulation Module) and external ( to the institution will be a focus of the role. It is crucial for the Transfer Credit Coordinator to recognize that the admissions process forms the first impression of the student experience at Laurier, and that transfer credit is the key deciding factor for a student choosing a transfer destination. In addition to working across functional areas of Enrolment Services, the Transfer Credit Coordinator will provide support to the Admissions team on special projects and admissions processes as required throughout the various phases of the admissions cycle. Engaging the Laurier community to support improved administrative processes is a goal of the Recruitment & Admissions team that the position will directly support. The position will be based out of the Brantford campus. This position also requires flexible hours including evenings, weekends and overnight on occasion.

Accountabilities :

    1. Transfer credit coordination, facilitation and administration.
    • Facilitate the approval of transfer credit assessment requests from incoming students by liaising with Faculty members and Admissions Coordinators.
    • Organize and monitor the centralized email account for incoming transfer credit inquiries/assessment requests.
    • Act as the point person for stakeholders in Recruitment & Admissions, Information Technology and Registrar’s Office as well as individual Faculties with regards to transfer credit and related initiatives.
    1. Maintenance of the Banner Transfer Articulation Module (BTAM).
    • Continue to test processes through the BTAM and determine a move forward plan to include College Block Transfers in the system and further streamline the admissions process.
    • Populate the database and implement the established plan for College Block Transfers and update the BTAM Training Manual(s) to reflect the new processes.
    • Research the benefits of including Canadian and International institutions in BTAM.
    1. Expand BTAM to stakeholders and university partners.
    • Identify Stakeholders and departments across both campuses that may benefit from utilizing BTAM, including but not limited to the Registrar’s Office, Academic Advising, and Faculty members.
    • Develop a move forward plan to implement and facilitate training based off the needs of the respective roles and their uses of BTAM.
    1. Recruitment & Admissions Support.
    • Administer, populate and update Laurier content including pathway agreements and course equivalencies on the website
    • Monitor and report on the recruitment and application cycles; participate in analysis and make suggestions to ensure targets are met.
    • Provide support to the Admissions Coordinators/Admissions Specialists as needed at high volume periods of time in the Admissions cycle.
    • Directly support Transfer Student Recruitment initiatives as an institutional representative at college recruitment visits and events.
  • Engage with transfer-specific and admission based projects that may arise throughout the duration of the contract.

Qualifications :

  • University Degree
  • Experience working in university recruitment and admissions
  • Experience utilizing Banner software, as well as competency in basic website portal administration
  • Knowledge of the Ontario post-secondary education system, university programs and admission criteria
  • Experience in project management
  • Effective interpersonal and public relations skills and presentation skills with demonstrated experience
  • Demonstrated skill/ability in the following areas: excellent written communication skills; dealing courteously and effectively with people; exercising good judgement and initiative; attending to detail; analyzing, interpreting and answering inquiries in a clear and concise manner; tact and diplomacy are essential
  • Demonstrated advising/counselling skills
  • Sound analytical and decision making skills
  • Ability to work independently and to set priorities
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Experience in a number of areas of student life

Grade : EX-F
Salary : $53,375 to $66,719
Salary Notes : This is a full-time, limited term position until March 31, 2019.
