WATER/WASTEWATER OPERATOR

POSTION: Water/Wastewater Operator
TERM: Full-Time
START DATE: Immediate
REPORTS TO: Public Works Director
WORK HOURS: 40-hour work week: 8 hours per day, Monday to Friday, with rotational weekend and statutory holiday on-call responsibilities (24 hours / day)
POSTING DATE: April 10, 2018
CLOSING: April 25, 2018
SALARY: To be Negotiated

GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
The Water/Wastewater operator will be responsible for assisting in the operation and maintenance of the communal water and wastewater systems. The successful candidate will work closely with the public works staff to ensure that potable water is available for community residents and that the effluent from the wastewater treatment facility meets the accepted standards.

Prerequisites:
• Proof of Operator-In-Training (OIT) certificates – minimum, certificates higher than OIT considered an asset
• Grade 12 or GED, post-secondary education considered an asset
• Valid G driver’s license – minimum, higher classes are considered an asset
• Transportation of Dangerous Goods, WHMIS & First Aid Certification
Attributes:
• Willing to obtain training to meet basic requirements
• Flexible to work outside normal operating hours, as required
• Experience in water and wastewater treatment
• Capable of troubleshooting
• Mechanically & electrically inclined
• Ability to work in a fast pace environment
• Comfortable using computers / programs (Email, Excel, Word)
• Willing to travel and work outdoors, as required
Working Conditions:
• The Water / Wastewater Treatment Operator has a physically strenuous and demanding job. The individual will be lifting, pulling and managing equipment and objects. This position also requires the transportation and handling of potentially dangerous materials.
