2007 NWT Outstanding Volunteer Award Recipients

YELLOWKNIFE (13 April, 2007) – The 2007 Northwest Territories (NWT) Outstanding Volunteer Award recipients were announced today by the Honourable Michael McLeod, Minister of Municipal and Community Affairs (MACA.) These outstanding volunteers were honoured today during the “Strengthening Communities” conference being held at the Explorer Hotel in Yellowknife.

“MACA recognizes and appreciates the important work that volunteers do across the Northwest Territories,” said Minister McLeod. “These annual awards are a way to acknowledge the individuals and groups who have made outstanding contributions to their communities.”MACA, in partnership with Volunteer NWT, presents the Outstanding Volunteer Awards annually to individuals and groups who have helped improve the quality of life in the NWT through their work as volunteers.

The recipients of the 2007 Outstanding Volunteer Awards are:

· Outstanding Elder Award – Pat Bobinski, Hay River
· Outstanding Youth Award – Harley Lang, Yellowknife
· Outstanding Individual Award – Mike St. Amour, Enterprise
· Outstanding Group Award – St. John’s Ambulance Therapy Dog Team, Yellowknife

“By hosting the Outstanding Volunteer Awards on April 13, we are starting National Volunteer Week a little early. Scheduled this year for April 15 to 21, National Volunteer Week is intended to pay special tribute to volunteers. I encourage NWT residents to honour all the special volunteers in our communities across the territory,” said Minister McLeod.
