The AFOA-Grant Thornton Aboriginal Youth Financial Managements Awards are open to First Nation youth in grades 11 and 12. Winners attend AFOA’s National Conference and participate in a special Youth program designed to introduce youth to careers in Aboriginal finance and management.

There is a great demand both within First Nation communities and off-reserve for Aboriginal financial management professionals and there are many opportunities for those who want to pursue this career path and many sources of assistance. However, very few of our young people are pursuing and education in financial management after high school. That is why AFOA and Grant Thornton have come together to offer the Aboriginal Youth Conference Awards in Financial Management.

AFOA and Grant Thornton are proud to announce the recipients of the AFOA – Grant Thornton Aboriginal Youth Financial Management Awards for 2008. They are:

Geordy Marshall, Eskasoni High School, Eskasoni, NS
Rebecca Sangwais, Grenfell High Community School, Grenfeel, SK
Sayla Spence, Children of the Earth High School, Winnipeg, MB
