The NAC English Theatre is thrilled to announce that the 2011–12 Season brought in the largest single ticket audience in the Theatre’s 43-year history, selling 39,204 single tickets and a combined 69,769 with subscription sales.
Led by the smash hit holiday musical Oliver!, followed by Ted Dykstra and Richard Greenblatt’s farewell tour of 2 Pianos 4 Hands, Sandra Shamas’ special production of Wit’s End III: Love Life, and closing with the all-Aboriginal King Lear, audiences couldn’t get enough of the variety of programming that was featured throughout the season. Response was so strong that Oliver! and Wit’s End III: Love Life added performances to keep up with demand.“We’re thrilled that Peter Hinton’s final season as resident Artistic Director was so enormously successful with Ottawa audiences, who have grown to love his creativity,” said NAC English Theatre Managing Director Nancy Webster. “It bodes well as we embark upon his final selection of plays with another exciting artist, Jillian Keiley, taking the helm as Artistic Director this August.”
With the 2012–13 Season fast approaching, excitement continues to build for English Theatre. Subscriptions are on sale at nac-cna.ca/subscribe. Watch for Peter Hinton’s premiere production of thirsty and Jillian Keiley’s spectacular direction of Metamorphoses.
