The results are in and A Tribe Called Red and their video “R.E.D.” have taken home the iHeartRadio Much Music Video Award for Video of the Year!

A Tribe Called Red dropped their video for “R.E.D.” last year, with the track featuring Black Bear, Canadian rapper Narcy and actor/rapper Yasiin Bey, who’s best known by his former stage name, Mos Def. Directed by Yassin Alsalman, A Tribe Called Red use Cape Town, South Africa as the picturesque backdrop for “R.E.D.” Bey and Narcy are the two main actors in the video, with the men walking through Cape Town, using an empty desert and checkpoint as the backdrops for their performance. The video was inspired by Bey’s real-life detainment in South Africa after overstaying with a visitor’s permit.

The video opens with a call out to ATCR’s third studio album We Are The Halluci Nation, with a voice saying, “We are the Halluci Nation. Our DNA is of earth and sky.”

A Tribe Called Red scored an incredible four nods this year, tying for the most nominations with solo artists Grimes and Shawn Mendes. In addition to Video of the Year, A Tribe Called Red took home Best Director with Kevan Funk for “R.E.D.” and were nominated for Best EDM/Dance Video and Fan Fave Video.

The group and Narcy appeared on stage to accept their award from Much VJ Liz Trinnear and fellow Canadian musicians Hedley. “I just want to say that I grew up watching Rap City with Master T on Much, so this means a lot,” said Narcy. “To all our black, brown, immigrant, Indigenous kids out there, believe in your dreams and make it happen.”

The 2017 iHeartRadio MMVAs are hosted by Alessia Cara and Joe Jonas and feature performances from Camila Cabello, Lorde, Imagine Dragons, Julia Michaels, Post Malone, Jazz Cartier, Niall Horan, DNCE, and Arkells. Click here to watch the show now!
