AB Government: Annual Métis Week celebrations

Métis Week celebrates the culture, history and contributions of Métis people to Alberta and Canada with events held across the province.

Métis Week

November 10 to 16, 2019

Métis Week is an opportunity for the Métis in Alberta to share their stories, history, and culture with people across Alberta. Everyone is welcome to join in activities throughout the week to learn more about Metis history, culture and the contributions of the Métis to Alberta and Canada.

Each year, the life and legacy of Louis Riel is commemorated on November 16, at the Alberta Legislature in Edmonton.

Louis Riel Commemorative Walk

8:15 am to 8:45 am – Shuttle service offered from the Métis Nation of Alberta Provincial Office located at: 11738 Kingsway Avenue, Edmonton
10 am – Walk begins, horse and wagon available to those who want to ride during the 6K walk
Noon – Mass at St. Margaret’s Church
1 pm – Gather at Deville Hall for chili, bannock, fruits and veggies, and dessert.

Métis Week Proclamation and Flag Raising Ceremony
The Métis Nation of Alberta and the City of Edmonton will host a proclamation and a flag raising ceremony in honour of Métis Week.
11 am to 1:00 pm – at City Hall, 1 Sir Winston Churchill Square in Edmonton.
Enjoy the cultural celebration with music and entertainment, concluding with a light lunch.

Edmonton’s High Level Bridge will be lit after sunset, with Métis colours, blue and white, to celebrate Métis Week. Constable Ezio Farone Park is a great location to take in the view located at 11004 97 Avenue.
