Aboriginal Persons Living with HIV/AIDS (APHAs) Housing Policy Initiative

Are you or anyone you know involved in a housing organization?
By implementing some easy to adopt additions to any policy manual, you can ensure that your organization is a leader in the housing field.
A policy document has been developed to easily align your existing policy manual(s) with HIV/AIDS policies relating to housing Aboriginal Persons Living with HIV/AIDS (APHAs).Prior to the development of this housing policy, Healing Our Spirit www.healingourspirit.org (HOS) conducted an environmental scan of specific policy related to working with Aboriginal Persons Living with HIV/AIDS (APHAs). Policies within housing organizations differed significantly from house to house even within the same organization and in many cases there was not any specific APHA issues reflected in any of the policies. For APHAs this lack of consistency is perceived as confusing, inequitable and sometimes inadvertently creates situations of direct or indirect discrimination.
Over a period of a year and a half, HOS hosted six round table sessions that were attended by representatives from across the Greater Vancouver service delivery community. The purpose of these sessions was to educate, share expertise and develop a series of universal policy proposals. The process culminated in the policy paper. The policies have been developed to easily integrate into any existing policy manual.
Be a leader in the housing field and add these new policies to your organizational framework today!
The policy paper is available at the Healing Our Spirit office and we are happy to help you implement these simple policy changes.
