Additional Federal Funding Awarded for Public Participation in the Environmental Assessment of Keltic LNG Project

OTTAWA – January 22, 2007 – The Canadian Environmental Assessment Agency (the Agency) has awarded a total of $23,590 to three applicants to support their participation in the environmental assessment of the proposed Keltic Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) Terminal and Marginal Wharf Project in Goldboro, Nova Scotia. The recipients are: Confederacy of Mainland Mi’kmaq, Mainland Nova Scotia Building and Construction Trades Council and Sierra Club of Canada – Atlantic Canada Chapter.

The funds will be used by the recipients to exclusively review and comment the comprehensive study report prepared by Transport Canada and Fisheries and Oceans Canada, the two federal responsible authorities for the project.This allocation of federal funds brings the total amount of money provided to groups and individuals to take part in the environmental assessment of the project to more than $55,000. Two other applicants were awarded $32,050 in 2006, also through the Participant Funding Program.

The proponent, Keltic Petrochemicals Inc., proposes to construct and operate a petrochemical complex, LNG importation and vapourization facility and associated infrastructure in Goldboro, Nova Scotia. The overall development proposal includes petrochemical facilities, a marginal wharf, an LNG terminal, LNG storage and regasification facilities, an electrical co-generation facility and a highway to the development site.
