AFN and CESO Sign Statement of Partnership strengthening first nations social and economic growth

Gatineau (QC), December 16, 2010 – Today, the Assembly of First Nations (AFN) and the Canadian Executive Service Organization (CESO) signed a Statement of Partnership, committing the two national organizations to work in collaboration to enhance institutional and human resources capacity to the economic growth, community well-being and nation-building of First Nations.AFN National Chief Shawn A-in-chut Atleo commented: “We are really happy to re-new our partnership with CESO. It is a wonderful opportunity to further enhance a relationship that began twelve years ago. In the upcoming months, we will be developing a work plan that will be consistent with the social and economic needs of our communities. CESO has done important support to sustainability and we believe that this relationship will help provide our people with capacity and economic opportunities that will lead to stronger First Nations communities.”

Building on a Memorandum of Understanding that was signed between the two organizations in 1998, the Statement of Partnership renews a collaborative commitment to provide needed technical services to First Nations communities. Through this partnership the AFN and CESO have agreed to develop a joint action plan that focuses on building First Nations capacity in governance, economic development, financial management, and emergency preparedness.

CESO President and CEO, Don Johnston, stated: “CESO is proud to be engaged in this partnership with the AFN as it indicates not only our positive long-standing relationship with the organization, but is a testament to our demonstrated commitment and ability to provide quality knowledge and expertise to communities when needed. For over 40 years, CESO has been providing services to Aboriginal communities and we see today’s signing of a Statement of Partnership as our renewed promise to continue to serve First Nations for years to come.”

CESO is a national registered charitable organization that provides the knowledge and skills necessary to develop sustainable foundations for growth within local and international communities.

The Assembly of First Nations is the national organization representing First Nations in Canada.
