Ottawa, Ontario, February 12th, 2015 – AFOA Canada (formerly the Aboriginal Financial Officer Association of Canada) is pleased to welcome 20 New Certified Aboriginal Financial Managers (CAFM) and 36 New Certified Aboriginal Professional Administrators (CAPA) to its community of professionals and membership. The convocation ceremony will take place during the 15th Anniversary National Conference at the RBC Convention Centre in Winnipeg, Manitoba on February 19, 2015 where over 900 Aboriginal leaders, senior managers and professionals will attend this event. The theme of the conference is, “Business Development – Capitalizing on Opportunities that Lead to Self-reliance and Economic Prosperity”

The CAPA program was developed to enhance the knowledge and professional development of senior and aspiring administrators/managers working in Aboriginal communities and organizations. Through professional training and a national certification process, the CAPA program provides new networking opportunities, environments for learning, and access to promising practices for working with Aboriginal communities and organizations at all levels. The CAPA Program is designed to set high quality competency standards and provide learning opportunities which will enable administrators/managers working in Aboriginal communities and organizations to gain the knowledge and skills to significantly enhance their workplace performance.

About CAFM

The financial environment of our communities and organizations is becoming more complex and the knowledge and skills our financial managers require are becoming more sophisticated. The CAFM Program is designed to meet these challenges and is based on rigorous competency standards focusing on technical knowledge, general management, leadership and ethical standards. The program is based on a combination of education and experience in Aboriginal financial management.
