Countdown begins to the ’08 Cannington Dog Sled Race & Winter Carnival Feb. 22nd, 23rd and 24th

CANNINGTON, ON, Feb. 8 – The 4th Annual Cannington Dog Sled Race & Winter Carnival is just days away – and this year, the fun-filled extravaganza taking place just minutes north of the GTA is bigger and better than ever before!

More than 70 dog sled teams from across North America will be competing for a $10,000 purse as the picturesque town of Cannington welcomes thousands of spectators to the celebration, billed as one of the best of its kind in Canada. “Mark it on your calendar now; this is a three-day weekend of excitement that’s guaranteed to get the whole family mushing,” says Ben Deith, Chair of the race committee and President of the Cannington Business Association.

Deith says old crowd favorites like the Toilet Seat Toss and the Ice Sculpture Competition will be joined this year by new attractions, including a live bandstand in the downtown core and the Steam Whistle Beer Garden/Ocala Wine Bar, running Saturday from noon until 1 a.m.

“We’re also honored to be hosting the Oshawa Metis Council who will be taking us back in time with their authentic native foods, full-dress ceremonial walks and traditional smudging ceremonies,” he says.

“If you’ve never tried a bison burger while listening to the huskies howl, this is one experience you won’t want to miss.”

Weekend passes for adults are $8 at the gate; children 13 and under are just $2 each. Let’s mush together this February 22nd, 23rd and 24th; for more information on the race and carnival, visit www.mycannington.com or call toll-free 1-877-246-1266.
