Devon Napope shares his lived experiences as an Indigenous Canadian. Devon Napope was born and raised in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan He is a member of One Arrow First Nation.
Born to a family filled with addictions, Devon is all too familiar with poverty, jails, violence, misery and pain.
Devon refused to allow his personal problems stop him. He realized that his success depended on his ability to “make it happen” and that “one choice can change the rest of your life”.
It was this attitude that he “checked” himself into treatment April.17.2017. Ever since, Devon has been free from drugs and alcohol.
Devon is now a member of STR8 UP and organization that works with individuals who are trying to leave the gang life. Since his involvement with STR8 UP Devon has spoken to many youth, adults and professionals, across the province of Saskatchewan. Devon has been quoted as saying” “We need to stop the cycle of hate and blame, and dividing people into good and bad. We need to take the time to build people back up”.
Devon is also the proud father of three amazing and exhausting children! This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
