Amherst hosting National Aboriginal Day events on June 21 – Cumberland News Now

This past week the ‘A’ team has been busy putting up summer hanging baskets to help beautify our town!

As a first for Amherst, we have installed a self-watering hanging basket on the corner of Lawrence and Victoria Street that will directly uptake water as needed through the roots from the six litre water reservoir at the bottom of the basket. These hanging planters are not only environmentally friendly; they are also made in Canada and reduce our carbon footprint by the decreased emissions of a watering truck.

Our plan is to replace all Amherst hanging baskets with hanging planters next season.

This upcoming Wednesday, June 21, community members and travelers from all over will be joining the Town of Amherst and Indigenous Northern Affairs Canada for National Aboriginal Day celebrations.

The opening ceremonies start at 11 a.m. in front of Four Fathers Library followed by a parade through the streets of Amherst then a Pow wow and celebrations in Victoria Square from noon to 4 p.m.
