An Update from Don Barraclough at NationTalk regarding COVID-19

Hello Subscribers,

Things continue to move fast and change quickly.

As we continue to monitor, share and respond to new information about COVID-19, we continually thank our partners, subscribers, readers for their continued support and kindness as we navigate this unprecedented circumstance.  As we all try to understand how this will affect our daily lives, businesses and friends and family, I would like to communicate what NationTalk is doing to help our Peoples and communities during this time.

We can all agree, communication is a key driving factor when faced with unpredictable, uncertain situations. In terms of reconciliation, early and transparent communication within communities and amongst our Peoples is crucial to build trust and ensure the credibility of public health advice.

Since the declaration of COVID-19 as a global pandemic, NationTalk is providing all services on Indigenous Health Today (www.IHToday.ca), a nation to nation newswire service, at no charge to aid in providing support and clear communications across our Nations, Provinces and Territories  on a single platform.  You can find Indigenous Health Today at www.ihtoday.ca and under ‘Contact’ you can send in your listing submissions from your organization or community.

For NationTalk National Edition we are offering our Listing & Advertising services located on NationTalk.ca at 50% off as well to assist your business or organization to continue marketing endeavors and will extend that offer as the COVID-19 situation develops.

NationTalk through its sister company the Community Alert & Response to Emergencies (CARE) will also offer reliable, instant mass notification for emergencies relating to COVID-19 in Canada today through this program at no charge.   CARE can notify over 2,000 households per minute in an emergency. The CARE system has over 20 years of experience in emergency notification management, with over 2,000 (traditional) Bell Canada lines with another 1,000 on standby to handle any critical situation relating to the COVID-19 Pandemic.

The most at risk in our communities and across Canada is our Elders. The CARE Elder Program sends out an automated wellness call once daily to the Elder and asks them to press any number on the telephone to let us know they are safe and well. While the Covid 19 continues, NationTalk will continue to cover the costs associated. You can find the latest information and details at www.thecareprogram.ca.

With a commitment to communicating, protecting, alerting and minimizing risks in communities, NationTalk commits to taking one of many actions since the announcement of COVID-19 as a global pandemic in protecting Canada’s Indigenous population who would otherwise be faced with many challenges regarding the management of major health crisis’ within communities.

As we collectively face uncertainty and new challenges regarding this situation, NationTalk promises to do everything in our power to continue to provide your organization with the voice it needs, and continue to provide clear, transparent messaging to our Peoples and communities in the form of opportunities for employment, tenders, events and connecting you to media and our members

We thank you for the last 15 years, and look forward to our upcoming years together.  In the meantime, lets show kindness and compassion to each other, we will get through this.

Sincerely,

Don Barraclough
