Atlantic Science Enterprise Centre Launches Public Lecture Series Science 360°
Today, the Honourable Jonathan Wilkinson, Minister of Fisheries, Oceans and the Canadian Coast Guard, announced that the Atlantic Science Enterprise Centre (ASEC) is launching a public lecture series. The Science 360° series will include keynote lectures each year from high-profile scientists as well as other scientific lectures.
The initial theme for these lectures is Women of Science. This series will kick off on November 14, 2018, with Dr. Mona Nemer, Canada’s Chief Science Advisor.
The Science 360° public lectures will be held in the newly refurbished L.J. Cowley Auditorium at the Fisheries and Oceans’ Gulf Fisheries Centre in Moncton, N.B. The public is invited to participate, ask questions and learn from these leading science experts.
The Science 360° series will strive to provide audience members with information on the infinite possibilities for science, careers, and challenges facing our coastal communities and all Canadians such as climate change. In addition to this formal seminar series, ASEC will also coordinate informal lectures throughout the year, during which local researchers and scientists as well as prominent professionals passing through the region will showcase projects they are involved in.
“The Science 360° series will inform Canadians on the endless possibilities in science-related fields to address challenges we are facing such as the health and sustainability of our oceans. This year’s theme reflects our government’s focus on gender equality. We know we need more women in these fields and this series of lectures is another way to empower, inspire and encourage them.”
