Banff World Television Festival Announces Nominees for the 29th Annual Awards
London, England — The Banff World Television Festival, announced today the nominees for the 29th annual Banff World Television Awards, at an event held in partnership with the Alberta U.K. office at the High Commission of Canada in London, England. International award-winning Producer Jon Plowman, (also the recipient of the 2008 Banff World Television Lifetime Achievement Award) announced the 100 nominees selected from the more than 900 entries received this year in 22 program categories.“The Banff World Television Awards (Rockies) are among the world’s most coveted television awards. The high number of entries from the more than 44 countries and territories, representing a 15% increase from last year, proves the Award’s continued growth and recognition within our international television community,” commented Jennifer Harkness, Executive Director of the Banff World Television Festival.
Canwest presents the Banff World Television Awards Show, at the Fairmont Banff Springs Hotel, in Banff, Alberta, Canada, on Monday, June 9, 2008, where the award winners will be announced. A complete list of nominees for the 2008 Banff World Television Awards follows below.
New program categories at this year’s Rockies include Environmental Programs and Social & Humanitarian Programs to address the larger social and humanitarian issues in the world today. The U.K. earned the highest number of nominees with Canada and the U.S. a close second. Australia and Germany are strong contenders across a variety of categories as well.
The list of all countries and territories represented in this year’s Program Competition includes: Argentina, Australia, Austria, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, China, Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Holland, Hong Kong, Hungary, India, Indonesia, Iran, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Japan, Luxembourg, Mexico, New Zealand, Nigeria, Poland, Romania, Russia, Singapore, South Africa, South Korea, Spain, Switzerland, The Netherlands, Trinidad, UK and the USA and for the first time the Czech Republic, and Liberia.
“The continued success of the Program Competition is due to the hard work of our international juries who volunteer their time to select the best programs on television from around the world, and to the nominees who have provided for viewers an unprecedented variety of quality programming,” stated Micol Marotti, Director of Program Competition.
In addition to the 100 nominees for the Banff “Rockie” Awards, an additional number of programs have been selected for out of competition (Hors Concours) recognition. The list of Hors Concours selections is available at www.banff2008.com.
