BC government, First Nation facing lengthy trial over Site C dam – Toronto Star

VANCOUVER—The province and a Northern B.C. First Nation are facing a lengthy trial over the controversial Site C dam that could potentially see the courts quash a taxpayer-owned project that is already partially built.

West Moberly First Nations and the B.C. government entered into confidential talks in February but failed to reach an agreement that would avoid the lengthy court battle.

A 120-day trial is scheduled to begin in March 2022.

West Moberly says the dam — which has faced considerable opposition from First Nations, environmental groups and farmers — is an unjustified infringement of the nation’s constitutionally protected Treaty 8 rights.
