Thirty-three organizations around British Columbia have received funding through the BC150 Community Arts Crant program, Tourism, Sport and the Arts Minister Stan Hagen announced June 12.“The BC150 Community Arts Grants are bringing B.C.’s rich history to life by funding exciting new art projects,” said Hagen. “These projects will leave a legacy of arts and culture for future audiences to enjoy and connect BC150 celebrations in every corner of the province.”

The BC150 Community Arts Grant program complements BC150 festivities taking place around the province, which are based on five key pillars: heritage, communities, Aboriginal people, cultural diversity, and arts and culture.

BC150 Community Arts Grants fund projects spanning a variety of disciplines, including visual art exhibitions, dance, musical or theatre productions, publication projects and media arts projects. The grants provide a maximum of $10,000 and up to 75 per cent of total project costs, and are administered through the Assembly of BC Arts Councils. Organizations receiving funding included 17 arts councils and 9 aboriginal organizations, and came from all regions of the province. Grants ranged in value from $2,000 to $10,000. This year, B.C. is celebrating BC150, the 150th anniversary of the founding of the Crown Colony of British Columbia in 1858. Every community in B.C. is invited to participate in this year-long celebration of the province’s cultural diversity, community strength and widespread achievement.
