BDC kicks off 2008 Young Entrepreneur Awards – Young Canadian Entrepreneurs Looking for Nationwide Exposure and Recognition Can Now Enter the Competition
MONTREAL, April 1 – The Business Development Bank of Canada (BDC) is looking for top business entrepreneurs aged 19 to 35 from across Canada for the 2008 Young Entrepreneur Awards (YEA), which will be presented on October 21st at a ceremony in Vancouver, British Columbia, during Small Business Week(R). Thirteen award winners, one from each province and territory, will be recognized for their business and leadership accomplishments. This year, two special awards will also be presented to YEA winners. The Export Excellence Award will be presented to the winner with the most outstanding export objectives, strategies and results. The Corporate Social Responsibility Award will also be presented to the winner whose company stands out in terms of practices and policies promoting environmental protection, sound human resources management or community well being.
The winners will be selected by a panel of business people, entrepreneurs, members of Chambers of Commerce and BDC representatives. The following selection criteria apply to all nominees: the originality of the business concept, its success, growth potential, and social involvement. The panel also considers the entrepreneur’s age when the business was started and any special challenges that were overcome. Nominees from previous years may enter again for the same or another business. For detailed information on selection criteria, visit www.bdc.ca/yea.
Entrepreneurs can nominate themselves. Application forms can be downloaded from BDC’s Web site at www.bdc.ca/yea.
