WINNIPEG – A former Tory federal cabinet minister who now sits as a backbencher in Manitoba’s Conservative government may be in hot water after criticizing his own government’s bill.
Steven Fletcher has been speaking out against a proposed law that would create a new Crown agency to promote energy efficiency.
Twice he has tied up legislature committee meetings in recent weeks by asking questions for hours, late into the night.
Premier Brian Pallister says he has had a talk with Fletcher, but won’t discuss any details.
Asked if he would remove Fletcher from caucus, Pallister says he doesn’t have plans to do so but says he’ll see where Fletcher’s conduct goes from here.
Fletcher won’t comment on his discussion with Pallister.
But he says he’s just doing his job as a politician by raising concerns about the cost of carving out a new agency from Crown-owned Manitoba Hydro to promote energy efficiency.
