A First Nation in northwestern Ontario has been evacuated due to smoke from an increasing number of forest fires in the region.
The Nibinamik First Nation declared a state of emergency and asked for the evacuation on Saturday night.
An unrelated power outage was also involved.
Ontario’s forest fire fighting centre says 155 blazes were burning as of Tuesday afternoon, with up to 30 new fires starting every day.
Fire information officer Deb MacLean says no communities are at risk because of the flames, but the smoke has been a problem.
The province’s Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry says it has evacuated 354 people by airplane since Saturday.
