The Department of Municipal and Community Affairs is accepting applications for the 2011- 2012 NWT Youth Ambassador Program. The program provides opportunities to build leadership skills through participation at special events and volunteer assignments throughout the year.
“The NWT Youth Ambassador Program provides excellent development opportunities for future leaders of our territory,” said Minister of Municipal and Community Affairs, Robert C. McLeod. “Supporting NWT youth in pursuing positive activities is an investment in our communities and a sure way to build a strong future for the NWT.”Twenty five Youth Ambassadors will be selected based on their interests, community involvement, and what they hope to achieve from the experience. To qualify, youth must be between 17 to 25 years of age on September 1, 2011. The deadline to apply is June 10, 2011.
Five of the ambassadors are Youth Ambassador Alumni, who will mentor the new ambassadors. Those who are selected will represent the NWT at the 2012 Arctic Winter Games in Whitehorse, Yukon, and at other events throughout the year.
Through the Youth Ambassador’s Program, the GNWT is working to maximize opportunities for NWT residents by providing youth with development opportunities to create healthy, educated residents as envisioned in the 16th Assembly’s vision of Northerners Working Together.
