Call For Submissions For The Art Bank Acquisitions Program

FREDERICTON (CNB) – Visual artists in the province are being invited to make submissions to the 2009-10 New Brunswick Art Bank Acquisitions Program, Hédard Albert, minister of wellness, culture and sport, has announced.The program buys contemporary works of art by New Brunswick visual artists for display in government buildings. Every two years, a jury of artists and art professionals selects artwork based on the acquisitions budget, which was increased recently to $40,000.

Artists who are Canadian or landed immigrants and who have lived in New Brunswick for 12 consecutive months prior to the application deadline are eligible to apply. Artwork must have been produced during the past two years (between January 2007 and November 2009) and must be suitable for display in government buildings.

The submissions deadline is Nov. 6. Application forms and more information are available online. The new acquisitions will be announced in the spring of 2010. They may be shown in a provincewide exhibition and presented as a digital compilation for the public school system.

The New Brunswick Art Bank is a permanent collection of more than 700 pieces of art. Compiled since the 1960s, the art bank serves as a record of excellence in the visual arts in New Brunswick.
