Canadian Council for Aboriginal Business announces Indspire President & CEO, Roberta Jamieson as recipient of the 2018 Indigenous Women in Leadership Award

Wednesday February 14, 2018, Toronto – On April 23, 2018, the Canadian Council for Aboriginal Business (CCAB) will be presenting the 2018 Indigenous Women in Leadership Award to Indspire President & CEO, Roberta Jamieson O.C., I.P.C., LL.B., LL.D. (Hon). The event takes place at the Design Exchange in Toronto, Ontario. The Founder and Exclusive Award sponsor is TD Bank Group.

In keeping with the changing times, CCAB is moving forward with a strong message supporting Indigenous women and the leadership they have championed. CCAB wishes to celebrate successful, accomplished, committed women with an award that will serve not only as national recognition but as a platform for the future.

Last year, CCAB presented The Honourable Jody Wilson-Raybould, Minister of Justice & Attorney General of Canada with the inaugural award.

Roberta Jamieson is truly a national voice for the empowerment of women and the Indigenous voice. Personally, I see her as a role model to all Canadians and a mentor to so many over the course of her extraordinary career. Roberta Jamieson is a Mohawk woman with a distinguished career of firsts. The first, First Nation woman in Canada to earn a law degree; first non-parliamentarian appointed ex-officio member of a House of Commons Committee; first woman Ombudsman of Ontario; and the first woman elected Chief of the Six Nations of the Grand River Territory.

Under Roberta’s leadership, Indspire has flourished. Raising close to $100Million, from government, corporate and private sectors, Indspire’s annual disbursements of bursaries and scholarships to support Indigenous students in post-secondary education and training have increased nine-fold. An innovative K-12 Institute for Educators was founded by Roberta, to

improve the educational outcomes with culturally grounded curriculum and techniques, and increase high school graduation rates.

She has earned numerous awards, including, YWCA’s President’s Award and Women’s Executive Network’s “Canada’s Most Powerful Women” Hall of Fame, as well as 25 honorary degrees. Roberta is the Executive Producer of the Indspire Awards, and an Officer of the Order of Canada.
