Toronto, ON – Wednesday, August 2, 2017 – St. Paul’s University College in Waterloo names JP Gladu, President and CEO of the Canadian Council for Aboriginal Business (CCAB) as its next Chancellor.
“We are delighted to welcome such a distinguished leader to the St. Paul’s community,” says Brenda Simpson, Chair of the St. Paul’s Board of Governors. “Given our strategic focus on both Indigenous education and social entrepreneurship, he is a perfect fit with the mission of our College.”
CCAB positions Aboriginal business at the focal point for strengthening Aboriginal communities. With over 400 members, CCAB is considered one of Canada’s premier organizations for Indigenous entrepreneurs. Jean Paul (JP) Gladu is Anishinaabe from Thunder Bay and is a member of Bingwi Neyaashi Anishinaabek located on the eastern shores of Lake Nipigon, Ontario.
Mr. Gladu has over two decades of experience in the natural resource sector. His career path includes work with Aboriginal communities and organizations, environmental non-government organizations, industry, and governments from across Canada. In Mr. Gladu’s current capacity at CCAB, he speaks extensively across Canada and internationally sharing the challenges and successes of Aboriginal business in Canada today.
“JP Gladu’s dedication to the causes he believes in is boundless. I have worked with him for years and his understanding of the major issues facing Canada is exhaustive. What a wonderful appointment for St Paul’s.”
– The Right Honourable Paul Martin
In his role as chancellor of St. Paul’s University College, he will be a member of its Board of Governors. St. Paul’s Principal Dr. Richard Myers believes that Mr. Gladu’s appointment will significantly strengthen the College’s capacity to improve educational opportunities for Indigenous students at the University of Waterloo and beyond. “The University of Waterloo is extraordinarily focused on entrepreneurship. Adding the lead voice for Canadian Indigenous Entrepreneurs to our team is a terrific move in this post-TRC period.”
This appointment follows Waterloo’s Aboriginal Education Centre winning the 2017 Equity and Inclusivity Award this past April.
