Christina Davis, Attendee of the annual Sisters in Spirit Vigil

by mmnationtalk on October 9, 20123177 Views

Release Date: October 09, 2012 NationTalk had the honor of attending the annual Sisters in Spirit Vigil at Allan Gardens Park, Toronto. Organized by The Native Women’s Association of Canada, hundreds of supporters gathered to remember the lives of missing and murdered Aboriginal women and girls.

Originally launched by the Native Women’s Association of Canada, the evening brought laughter, applause and tears as participants of all ages and sexualities shared personal stories with the crowd.  The vigil in Toronto was one of 129 that were held across Canada. We had the privilege of speaking to Christina Davis, who was in attendance. Her sister, Caroline was sadly murdered in Winnipeg. She talks about how she feels that the authorities do not take enough action to find missing Aboriginal women, her own personal battles with addiction and how attending the vigil has really helped spark the healing process.
