Our city police are comparing themselves to similar forces in Saskatchewan.
Deputy Chief Sylvie Hauth and Spokesperson Chris Adams took part in a tour of Regina, Saskatoon and Prince Albert’s police detachments.
Hauth says seeing that Saskatoon could turn their relationship with aboriginals around gives her hope that they too can improve.
They noted the Regina Police Service has a Cultural and Community Diversity Unit as well as mandatory cultural training for their officers and an Aboriginal Recruitment Liaison Officer.
While in Saskatoon, First Nation elders play an important role in the organization and in training efforts.
