JULY 7, 2017 (IQALUIT, NUNAVUT) – The City is currently seeking applications by July 21, 2017 for its first annual Junior Firefighter Program – a unique work experience targeted to youth 16 to 24 years of age.

During the 10-day session held in Iqaluit from August 14th to August 25, 2017, 20 participants will be provided with an opportunity to receive hands-on training as a firefighter. Students will learn such skills as how to fight a fire; rescue techniques; and first-aid training including CPR (cardio pulmonary resuscitation).

In addition to providing an immersion experience as a firefighter, this training program is also intended to develop portable life-skills training, such as team building, leadership, and working in a group.

For additional information, as well as to apply for this program, please contact Deputy Fire Chief Stephane Dionne at 979.5662, or by email at S.Dionne@city.iqlaluit.nu.ca.
