City of Iqaluit: City celebrates Outstanding Volunteers

by ahnationtalk on November 29, 2017739 Views

NOVEMBER 24, 2017 (IQALUIT, NUNAVUT) – More than 30 community members attended this year’s celebration for Outstanding Volunteers, which was held recently at the Elder’s Qammaq Centre in Iqaluit.

Nominations for each category were submitted by residents and community organizations from September until the end of October. Recreation staff reviewed the submissions, and selected the winning entries based on the strength of the application, the commitment of the volunteer to the community, as well as the impact of the volunteer on the community/group as a result of the volunteer’s involvement.

This year’s Outstanding Volunteers are:
Outstanding Volunteer, Community Development: Sarah Holzman
Outstanding Volunteer, Youth: Alexis Amores
Outstanding Volunteer, Arts and Culture: Travis Cooper
Outstanding Volunteer, Sports and Recreation: Andrew and Warren Keim
Outstanding Volunteer, Ikayuqtimarik: Natsiq Kango
Outstanding Volunteer, Service Organization: Qajuqtarvik Food Centre

Each volunteer received a special plaque commemorating the occasion, as well as the thanks from the entire City for their contribution in helping to make Iqaluit a great place to live.

Residents interested in volunteering are encouraged to explore opportunities with organizations that they are interested in. Attending the Mass Registration event in September is also a great way to see all the community organizations that are active in Iqaluit.
