Clark wants Saskatoon city hall to consider MMIWG inquiry proposals – StarPhoenix

The 1,200-page final report from the federal Inquiry into Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls contains 231 calls to justice, with some directed at police.

Saskatoon Mayor Charlie Clark wants to know if city hall can help address issues raised in the federal Inquiry into Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls (MMIWG).

Clark said at Monday night’s city council meeting that he plans to seek support to get the city administration to review the final report of the MMIWG inquiry.

The report includes 231 calls to justice; Clark wants city staff to study whether any of them fall under the jurisdiction of city hall.

The effort would be similar to one that studied how the city could respond to the calls to action stemming from the Truth and Reconciliation Commission into the devastating legacy of residential schools in Canada, Clark said.
