Community Tree Planting – Earth Day Event at Saugeen Village
SAUGEEN FIRST NATION, On (April 20, 2012) –TD Green Streets and Bruce Power are pleased to be providing funding for the planting of 100 – 12’ red oak and silver maple trees in Saugeen First Nation this Saturday, April 22. This regional program is part of a collaboration with Saugeen Shores, Kincardine, sauGREEN, Historic Saugeen Metis and Saugeen First Nation.
The Saugeen First Nation Band Council would like to invite the community to come at 9am on Saturday to the James Mason Recreational Centre for a brief welcome and organizing into groups to plant trees at various locations, followed by a BBQ in appreciation of the volunteers’ efforts. “Ensuring the sustainability of our land, water and resources is so vital to our existence as a people,” said Chief Randall Kahgee. “It is refreshing to see these types of efforts.”
“We are very happy to be working with our neighbours to plant trees in parks and around public buildings in Saugeen First Nation,” says Victoria Serda, of sauGREEN and Trees for Saugeen. “We can all learn from each other and work together to green our communities for our children and grandchildren.”
