Council supports turning Acden lot into reserve land for ACFN, approves protecting chess park – Fort McMurray Today

Council will send a letter of support to the federal indigenous minister on behalf of the Athabasca Chipewyan First Nation after unanimously approving a request to back a request adding their band-owned company’s office in Fort McMurray to reserve. The property for Acden, the company in question, is located at 220 Taiganova Crescent in Fort McMurray.

“We are a big contributor when it comes to this region,” said ACFN Chief Allan Adam. “There are so many things out there that hinder us First Nations from moving along and this is just one of the issues that hold us back. So we’re asking for support.”

ACFN Councillor Michelle Voyageur said by including the land in the ATR, some workers could receive the same tax benefits as those that work on the reserve.
