Alanis Obomsawin’s latest movie, The People of Kattawapiskak River, shines a light on the lives of First Nations people who, she said, are often represented in a negative light.
After working on other movies, Obomsawin noticed viewers had mixed reactions to her work.
“Why is it that people love to hear about bad people? You tell me,” she said. “Why is it that they are so happy to talk about those ‘savages,’ those people that don’t know how to live and calling them all kinds of names?”
