Culture Days Offer Free, Family-friendly Events Across the Province

Free, family-friendly events celebrating Manitoba culture and the arts will be held throughout Manitoba today until Sunday, Sept. 29, Culture, Heritage and Tourism Minister Flor Marcelino announced.

“Communities across the province are taking part in this national event that celebrates our incredible cultural and artistic resources, with more and more organizations, communities and people participating each year,” said Marcelino.  “I hope that Manitoba families take the opportunity to experience our province’s arts and culture community and recognize the value it brings to our everyday lives.”

Culture Days is a collaborative national event that began in 2010 and has grown significantly during the past three years.

Highlights of the 2013 Culture Days include:

• 312 registered events across the province including more than 200 activities in Winnipeg, one of the highest totals for any Canadian city;
• a Fun with Art hands-on program for preschoolers offered today by visual artist Michael Spencer in Flin Flon;
• an exhibition of Little Free Library designs to support free book exchanges in the community,  today until Sunday at the Millennium Public Library in Winnipeg;
• dance performances at the Royal Winnipeg Ballet from 1 to 4 p.m., Sunday;
• a Life in the Past Lane adventure, celebrating the province’s agricultural history at the Pembina Threshermen’s Museum in Winkler, today until Sunday; and
• an Ask an Archaeologist artifact identification clinic in Portage la Prairie, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday.
