A peaceful protest took place on Dakota Tipi First Nation, Monday, after the chief and council disbanded and left the First Nation in the care of a committee and a third party manager.
A number of letters were posted on the glass door of the administration office detailing reasons for the closure and what will be happening until that time.
Chief Cornell Pashe wrote to Aboriginal Affairs and Northern Development to informed the government that a committee would be overseeing the First Nation effective Oct. 27. He said that, “the committee was established as a result of INAC disbanding chief and council.”
A band council resolution dated Oct. 23, 2012 that was posted declared that chief and council had met and appointed a committee to oversee, maintain, and operate the administration, VLTs, tobacco and gas businesses, the tobacco tax rebates, and the Health and Wellness Centre on Dakota Tipi First Nation until an election can be called on Nov. 17.
