Death At Edmonton Institution
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Edmonton, Alberta, August 27, 2009. During the early hours of Thursday, August 27, 2009, Raymond Yellowknee died of an apparent suicide while in custody at Edmonton Institution.Mr. Yellowknee was a 37-year-old offender serving a sentence of 16 years for the offences of Evade Police/Cause Bodily Harm (x4), Impaired Driving/Death (x4), Theft Over and Operate Motor Vehicle while Disqualified.
Next of kin have been notified.
As in all cases where an individual dies while in custody, the police and coroner are called to investigate. In addition, Correctional Service Canada will review the circumstances surrounding this incident.
