Director Education Program Confirmed Success in Iqaluit Nunavut
TORONTO, June 25 – The Directors’ Education and Accreditation Program (DEAP) has been a resounding success for senior government and business leaders in Iqaluit, Nunavut. The program, offered by the Canadian arm of the Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators (ICSA), an international leader in governance training and education, recently celebrate credits 13 graduates in Iqaluit.Alan Carriere, a graduate of the program and a director on the Board of Qullik Energy Corporation found the courses to be “well structured, well defined and presented by the best in their respective fields.” After a week of in depth instruction, Mr. Carriere stated the DEAP program is “the ultimate Corporate Governance training session one can hope for.”
The DEAP program, which had its initial launch in Canada last fall in Toronto, has also been extremely successful in the Caribbean. The program consists of four modules: Governance, Financial Reporting and Disclosure, Risk Management and Strategy, all taught by experienced industry leaders.
According to Janis Riven, past President ICSA and Chair of its Continuing Professional Development Committee, “the DEAP curriculum emphasizes a practical approach to learning, allowing Directors to more effectively manage their responsibilities to their organization and their stakeholders.” Ms. Riven explained that also unique to the program is the professional designation of Acc. Dir. (Accredited Director).
ICSA in Canada conducts the DEAP program along with its existing partners, which include Borden Ladner Gervais LLP, AON Reed Stenhouse, Canada, and a yet to be announced finance partner.
